Will the Brit beat the Yank?

Tug of war between a Land Rover and a Dodge RAM

Sipi is a fairy who hangs above us like a huge, ever-smiling, men’s fragrance-smelling umbrella. He can be called anytime, anywhere to lend a helping hand, and he’ll be there in an hour with one of his Transits for sure. A dangerously maniac car collector (the street in front of his house is full of his vehicles), a radio-control and model car freak, Sipos is a Swiss knife made of human flesh. Totalcar is just one job amongst his zillion occupations, but he endears it the most. Lives with a girlfriend and two dogs.

I wonder what odds a London bookie would offer.

The 5.9 litre Cummins turbo diesel engine of a Dodge Ram can deliver 325 HP and 610lb-ft/825 Nm torque, but even the „weakest” version has 215 HP and 420 lb-ft/568 Nm torque. The Land Rover Defender 300 Tdi’s 2.5 litre turbo diesel engine has 111 or 122 HP and 195lb-ft/264 Nm or 210 lb-ft/280 Nm torque, depending on engine code.

The badge on the RAM’s tailgate says it’s a 4X4. Land Rover Defenders are always four wheel drive equipped. Put these two cars on the opposite ends of a strong rope and let the tug of war begin.

Hmmm. Interesting. It looks great, and it also feels great to see the little Yokshire terrier beat the pitbull, but I have my doubts. Is the 4WD engaged in the RAM? Why can’t I see the front wheels of the Dodge spin? I don’t get it. Is the Landy’s transmission system so much better? Or does the Landy have way more power than stock? What do you think?

When premium meant quality

Back in 1983, Volkswagen was not a serious player, and Audi just a VW, but those two went to fight it out. Cars from an era when some things were designed for eternity.
