Former car restorer, damper designer, rotary-engine guru and also an automotive engineer, but generally doesn’t talk much about his former activities. András is our mag’s Leatherman tool: when there’s a project no-one would poke with a stick, he’s the one usually assigned to carry it through. When he’s in Hungary, he works 16 hours daily, then every once in a while he disappears from the horizon. Last time he’s been seen in Auckland… Has a huge garage, lives with a girlfriend.

A new trend is emerging in Bulgaria: more and more owners of Patrols are building the GT-R turbo in-line 6 of the Nissan Skyline into their cars.

If you aren’t sure what to make of this combination just yet, please watch the video.

The RB-engined Patrol drivers even have their own club by now. The RB is the engine code of the legendary ’90s in-line six petrol engines, particularly popular in Japan. Stock they had a horsepower of about 280, and were rather suitable for tuning – the most nefarious Bulgarian off-roaders probably weren’t content with a simple engine swap.

You can love or loathe the guys honing in the dirt, but it sure is hard to associate the pictures with the stunning engine sounds. One thing is certain, though: if the Patrols aren’t only used for going on joyrides, the tanks must have been replaced by something bigger as well.
